Answers About Christianity
Q: HOW DO YOU BECOME A CHRISTIAN?
Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father but, by Me.” And John 3:15 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave His only Son _ that whoever believes in Him shall have eternal life”.
Becoming a Christian has to be a decision. A decision to trust in Jesus Christ personally as Lord and Savior. To believe that Christ died for your sins and rose from the dead. To believe that Jesus is God and will give you a brand new life.
You see we have all sinned. Romans 3:23 says, “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”
God is holy and thus, cannot abide sin and sin cannot be in His presence or in heaven. He knew that people needed a Savior and planned long ago to send His Son to the earth in a human body to be a sacrifice for the sins of the whole world and pay the penalty for sins. Romans 6:23 says, “the wages of sin is death, but, the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.”
You must believe that Christ is who He said He is, that He is one with the Father. God of the universe. Lord and Savior of mankind. When you put your trust in Christ personally and ask for forgiveness of your sins _ you will be saved. You will become a child of God and be granted the gift of eternal life. Romans 10:9 says, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead _ you will be saved.”
Q: HOW DO YOU GET THE HOLY SPIRIT?
A: Once you surrender your life to Jesus Christ _ the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within you. You don’t even has to ask for the Holy Spirit to be given to you _ the Lord will do it because He has promised this will happen.
Jesus Himself said in: John 14:15_18
“If you love me, obey my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world at large cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you do, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. NLT
Eph 1:13_14
And now you also have heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. 14 The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us everything he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. This is just one more reason for us to praise our glorious God. NLT
Q: HOW CAN YOU GET CLOSE TO JESUS?
You must believe that Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross alone will save you. Not works. Not anything you do. Not baptism. Not going to church. Jesus paid the complete penalty for sins when He died on the cross. Nothing can be added to that sacrifice. His salvation is a gift _ not something you can work for or try to achieve. It is through Him and His sacrifice that you are saved _ that you are forgiven _ that you given the gift of eternal life. But, you can’t just acknowledge this as a fact or half_heartedly believe. Belief is a commitment of your whole heart and life to Jesus as Lord. Let Him take control. You won’t regret it. Read more about How to Know God Personally. In this article I cover evidence for Christ and His life and work.
Pray this prayer so you can know that you are saved, forgiven of all your sins, one of His children and going to heaven:
Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner in need of forgiveness. I turn my life over to you because I believe that You died for my sins and You are the only way to heaven and to have peace with God. You are the only One who can save and forgive me. Please cleanse me of my sins, come into my life and change me today. In Jesus’ Name I ask this. Amen
In Matt 28:20 Jesus says this: “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (NIV)
I Jn 5:20 says: “We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true__ even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.”(NIV)
If you have just placed your trust in Jesus Christ, you are now a Christian on your way to heaven and nothing can separate you from the love of Christ. You are starting a brand new life. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says it this way, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he/she is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”. Your sins have been paid for. Your slate has been wiped clean. Jesus said in John 10:10, “I have come that they might have life and have it more abundantly.” He was saying that you will discover that your present life is more meaningful and hopeful now that you have a relationship with the God of the universe.
